Hello World!

Bonjour everybody! Welcome to my blog! My name is Katie. This is actually the second blog that I have made in my life. When I was about 13, I made a blog that just blabbed about my middle school life and then boyfriend. Sounds pretty embarrassing. Good thing I forgot the URL and where I made it at. When I was in tenth grade (high school) I created a "MySpace". That was fun for a while, but then I hated how everything in high school was centered around MySpace. It was just really lame. Human interaction significantly decreased, people stopped using the phone, you weren't cool unless your picture was super fashionable. Not my scene. I deleted it.

Now, I am a freshman in college. I am an art student at VCU. I absolutely LOVE VCU! It is located in the heart of Richmond, Virginia and is the number one public art school in the nation. I had a hard time my junior and senior year convincing my mom that going to art school was a good idea. She was not diggin' it.

My mom went to college for a year or two and then dropped out. She ended up with a pretty rewarding career. My dad never went to college, he works in the service department of an auto shop. I consider him pretty successful, even though he pretends that he isn't. Both my parents always wanted me to go to college, so I wouldn't have to struggle finding a job. They both know how hard it is without a degree, so they always wanted me to have what they did not. My mom always had high hopes for me to go to Virginia Tech or University of Virginia, so I could major in business. She had this idea that I would grow up and be a wealthy business woman. So, you can imagine her reaction when I told her I wanted to go to art school. There were lots of fights, and tons of tears. But, that just shows how much she cares about me- she wants the best for me. Eventually, she got over it because she knows that I just love to make stuff. She is extremely accepting now. My dad was proud that I was going to college. He was more accepting of me going to an art school. I have pretty good parents.

Normally, I would probably have never made another blog. But, like the teacher from the magical school bus always said, "never say never". This blog is being produced because it is an assignment for one of my studio classes. I am actually pretty excited about this assignment. I think it will be fun for me to create and keep up with. I also think (or hope) that others will find this blog to be interesting.

For the first couple of blogs I will be discussing the classes that I have been taking this first semester. This is a requirement of the assignment. However, I plan on adding other fun stuff and continuing this blog after the class is over. Hopefully my readers will keep up with me!
Stay tuned!
